High-speed Broadband Over Twisted-pair Copper

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a technology that enables high-speed data transmission over traditional twisted-pair copper wiring. It includes ADSL (asymmetric DSL) that supports differing upstream and downstream thoughput ranging from 1 megabit per second (Mbps) to 24 Mbps.

VDSL2 is the newest and most advanced standard protocol of DSL. It’s designed for the deployment of triple-play services including voice, data, high definition television and interactive gaming. VDSL2 supports long reach and provides symmetric data rates of up to 100 megabits/second and is backward compatible to ADSLx.

VDSL2 is also flexible.  It can be deployed from central offices as part of a complete copper infrastructure.  Or it can be used to connect users to fiber-fed cabinets located near the customer premises, or within buildings. Many multi-dwelling units in cities around the world receive fiber to the building and utilize Ikanos’ VDSL2 over copper within the building.

VDSL is widely deployed and adoption is growing as companies replace their aging ADSL offerings. Service providers using or testing Ikanos’ VDSL in their networks include some of the largest carriers in the world.

Ikanos is the world leader in VDSL with more than 30 million ports shipped. And we belong to a range of organizations that are furthering the technology including the Broadband Forum, ITU, ATIS, ETSI and others.
